FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. -- Outside linebacker OBrien Schofield believes one week of practice will have him ready to play in the Falcons game at New Orleans on Monday night.Schofield, who started 10 games with Atlanta in 2015, re-signed with the Falcons on Thursday to address a sudden depth problem at linebacker.Schofield, a fourth-round pick by Arizona in 2010, played for the Cardinals and Seattle for five seasons before signing with Atlanta last year. He had 28 tackles, two sacks and one forced fumble last season.Atlanta inside linebacker Paul Worrilow had groin surgery on Thursday and will be out indefinitely. Also, rookie outside linebacker DeVondre Campbells status for Monday nights game at New Orleans is uncertain. Campbell, who opened the season as a starter at outside linebacker, missed last weeks win at Oakland with an ankle injury and did not practice on Thursday.Coach Dan Quinn said no timetable has been set for Worrilows return. Philip Wheeler was moved from outside linebacker to play behind starting inside linebacker Deion Jones. Quinn said Worrilows injury and Wheelers move created the need to sign Schofield. We needed to have some more depth on the outside and thats where Schofield has great history being a part of the defense before, Quinn said.Schofield, 29, said his offseason workout schedule left him in good shape to make a quick return to action.I think I did a great job training this offseason, Schofield said. I dont think anybody has worked as hard as I did. Its just going to be getting back into football shape, hitting and running to the ball. Im a veteran. Ive done this for a while so I dont think its going to be that hard.Schofield signed a one-year deal. The details of the contract were not immediately available. He also had interest from other teams, including the Patriots and Jets.I was waiting for the right opportunity as far as the money and the situation, he said. At the end of the day, I took the situation over the money. I still had other offers where I would be getting paid more than I am now, but I looked at this opportunity to come into a system Im comfortable with and a coach Im very comfortable with and I just came here to take advantage of that.Quinn said he will make a decision on Schofields status later in the week. He said Schofield has to quickly adjust to tweaks in the scheme made this year.Hes a real bright guy and will pick it up quick, Quinn said. Were going to see how it goes and then well make a determination for him at the end of the week to see where his conditioning is in football as well. The Falcons also waived running back Terron Ward. Ward had 29 carries for 95 yards and one touchdown in 2015 and did not have a carry in the teams first two games. The move leaves Atlanta with only two running backs, Devonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman, plus fullback Patrick DiMarco. The Falcons may sign another running back after this week.Game notes WR Julio Jones (thigh) also was held out Thursday. Quinn said Jones is making good progress and hopes he will be ready for Monday nights game. ... Rookie SS Keanu Neal (knee) had limited participation after missing the first two games. MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- Bob Huggins always wanted to be a basketball player. Coaching wasnt on his early list of career options.Huggins will go after coaching win No. 800 on Saturday when No. 12 West Virginia (8-1) takes on Missouri-Kansas City (7-5), the same team Kansas Bill Self notched his 600th career win against earlier this month.Huggins said he doesnt think about such things unless someone brings it up.I dont know if its sunk in, he said. I really dont think about the past. I try to live in the present. The 800-win club will have a few new members this season.Huggins will be the 10th coach of a mens team with a minimum of 10 years in Division I to get there. Former Villanova coach Rollie Massimino, 82, became the ninth on Wednesday night at NAIA Keiser. North Carolinas Roy Williams is expected to reach the feat this season.Growing up in Morgantown, Huggins cherishes the memory of sitting in his grandfathers lap listening to West Virginia games on the radio. All he wanted to do was play basketball.Coaching wasnt high on the list even though his father, Charlie, molded three state high school champion teams in Ohio.I think, to a large degree, my dad said `you dont want to do that, Huggins said. I never have listened much to my dad, obviously.Charlie Huggins said coaching comes with a caveat. We tried to explain to him that it would be a lot of work and not much money, the elder Huggins said.Nonetheless, his sons 800th will be a proud moment. Its been a long haul, Charlie Huggins said. Its amazing. Its really hard to believe.Bob Huggins playing aspirations ended after he was cut by the Philadelphia 76ers in 1977. West Virginia coach Joedy Gardner offered him a graduate assistant position, enabling him to finish his masterss degree in health administration.ddddddddddddI figure I could get my masters degree paid for. But I didnt know what I was going to do, Huggins said.At one time or another he mulled becoming a doctor or an attorney. But basketball stuck. He spent two years as an assistant under Eldon Miller at Ohio State, then became a head coach at age 27 at Walsh College in 1980.Most of his wins came during 16 seasons at Cincinnati before being fired in 2005 in a power struggle with the schools president. He spent one season at Kansas State and took his dream job at West Virginia in 2007.His sideline rants havent slowed down. Players and referees still get a tongue lashing in front of thousands of fans. His home-state fans will especially remember him for coming to the aide of star player DaSean Butler in the 2010 Final Four in Indianapolis. Facing Duke in the semifinals, Butler fell to the floor with a serious knee injury. Huggins cradled Butlers head, stroked his face and offered some calming words as trainers worked on him.Huggins, 63, has endured just three losing seasons, two of which occurred in his first four seasons of coaching. His wife was asked recently if she thought he could last 10 more years. She said, `I dont know about him, but I cant, Huggins recalled.Coaching pal John Calipari at Kentucky tried to put Huggins impending feat into perspective. It means two things, Calipari said in a short video sent to Huggins. One, youre getting old. And the second thing, if you had played me more, youd had got there quicker! Congrats man. Happy for you.---More AP college basketball: www.collegebasketball.ap.org ' ' '
